What are Think It! Contract Activities?

These theme-based contract activities have been designed by educators to incorporate a number of different thinking skills, strategies and approaches. You will find activities that use a variety of Tony Ryan’s Thinker’s Keys, Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences (SMARTS) and Edward deBono’s Six Thinking Hats, as well as other higher-order thinking skills. Graphic Organisers are used throughout these activities in different ways and for different purposes.  Most activities fit within the upper levels of Bloom's Revised Taxonomy.  Read the Contract Activities Rationale for the principles behind the use of contracts within the classroom.

These contract activities are ready to download or print directly from your computer and come with a cover page for each student and a number of activities (15- 21) that promote divergent and creative thinking. Print one or print them all. Save them and change them to suit your individual students. Use the format of these contracts to design your own (we’d love you to send us a copy if you do).

Activities can be printed out and made into activity books for each child or displayed in hanging pockets with children selecting the activities they wish to work on. Children work at their own pace and at their own ability level to complete thinking tasks.

These activities could also be used for extension tasks, small group activities, "not-so-boring homework" tasks, journal writing starters and as 5 minute fillers.  Explicit teaching of thinking skills should be an integral part of any program incorporating these contract activities.

All of these contract activities have been tried and tested in our classrooms and have proven to be a huge hit with our students. These activities are designed to be exciting, challenging and at all times FUN!!

WARNING: As these contracts have been designed (in Microsoft Word and Publisher format) to be as visually stimulating for students as possible they contain images and can take a couple of minutes to download. As these are wonderful thinking resources ready to use immediately in your classroom with your students, we suggest they are really worth waiting for!
